Who runs Pretty Primp?

Hi there!

My name is Shelby and I am a twenty-something San Diego native and the creator behind Pretty Primp! I am a lifelong beauty enthusiast, who has been absolutely obsessed with all things makeup, hair, nails, and skin care, since I was old enough to use the internet.

I believe that through the different facets of beauty, we are able to not only express our individual creativity, but present the world with the best versions of ourselves, the people we aspire to be.

I personally have always taken a great amount of pride in caring for my skin and hair. And when it comes to makeup? I’ve always found myself intrigued by new trends, styles, and techniques.

Anytime I venture into Sephora I find myself wide eyed taking in all the products before me, trying to envision exactly what tools I will need to paint upon the canvas I consider my face. To me, beauty is both an expression of self love and art.

Why was Pretty Primp formed?

I started Pretty Primp in the early summer of 2017 as it became increasingly clearer to me that my day job was just not where I wanted to be; I was a skin care consultant and makeup artist for a major brand in one of the biggest retail chains in the country.

And while I was damn good at my job, it just wasn’t enough to make me happy and fulfilled. I loved helping women discover solutions to their skin and makeup concerns, but I found the politics of working in the dying space of retail completely toxic and disenchanting.

So, I decided to take my passion and education, along with a willful desire to encourage women to feel confident and love the face they see in the mirror, elsewhere.

What does Pretty Primp strive to achieve?

When I was working at my old job, I found it very alarming how many women, regardless of age, race, and background, seemed completely lost when it came to understanding proper skin care and makeup technique.

Now, while there is nothing wrong with asking for help now and again, I found it extremely upsetting that so many women came to me unhappy with the way they looked and without a clue in the world of how to properly care for their skin and put on even the most natural of makeup.

For so many women, myself included, feeling beautiful and confident can come from loving the way our face looks. Pretty Primp strives to teach women the following fundamentals:

  1. You CAN create the skin of your dreams through proper lifestyle choices (such as diet), preventative measures (SPF! SPF! SPF!), and skin care regimen.

  2. You are just as beautiful without makeup as you are with it, just as you are beautiful with or without a pimple. There is no shame in wanting to alter your appearance to make yourself happier.

  3. Mastering makeup is really not that hard. Knowing how to simply pick the right foundation for you, apply complimentary blush and lipstick colors, open your eyes with mascara, and groom your brows is really all anyone needs to look well rested, healthy, and youthful. But what if you want to rock a smokey eye, or a cut crease, or some new avant garde look you saw on the runway? Well, then that’s awesome! But in reality, makeup is just as much about enhancing natural beauty as it is about experimenting.

It is my ultimate goal that this blog be a source of inspiration, knowledge, and above all else, encouragement to anyone who aspires to further their understanding of beauty.

As strong women, we should all feel confident and knowledgeable on what we can do to feel our most beautiful.

Instead of wandering into some department store feeling lost, frustrated, or down right defeated, I want to inspire you to take pride in creating your own beauty identity through, and if this blog can give you that, then that’s more than I could ever ask for.

After all, knowledge is power.

I am so happy that you’re here to embark on this journey with me as we discuss and learn about all things beauty! I cannot wait to see what’s to come and hear your stories of success in learning or continuing to love your beautiful self.
