5 Must Have Drugstore Makeup Remover Dupes (Save $$$!)

Sharing is caring!

You don’t have to drop a lot of coin to get a great makeup remover!

Truth be told, I’d much rather purchase a drugstore makeup remover than a high end makeup remover because they’re only becoming more and more similar in quality.

BUT I think it is important that I mention, no matter how much money you feel comfortable spending on a makeup remover, you DO need one.

Using a makeup remover before washing your face is referred to in the beauty world as “double cleansing”, and many makeup artists, cosmetic companies (like Clinique), and estheticians alike have been swearing by this practice for years.

Double cleansing allows your actual cleanser to penetrate the skin better, without makeup acting as a barrier to skin.

There are some instances where a cleanser advertises it can remove makeup (as you’ll see on this list) and that’s perfectly fine, but I would still recommend a very light second wash.

Leaving behind traces of makeup will not only clog your pores, but could even break you out.

So bottom line? Make sure you’re using some type of makeup remover to remove all your makeup before cleansing your skin.

Now that you understand the importance of double cleansing, let’s get into the list of drugstore makeup remover dupes!

Micellar Water: Simple Cleansing Water vs Lancome Cleansing Water

Simple Water Boost Micellar Cleansing Water for Sensitive Skin Twin Pack, 27 ounce

It used to be that you could only find micellar water in Canada and Europe, until a few years ago.

Now, it seems like every brand, both high and low, is on the micellar bandwagon and for good reason.

Micellar water is extremely gentle, and as you may have already guessed, feels just like water.

Although very gentle and light, micellar water is able to remover even the most stubborn of makeup (looking at you waterproof mascara).

Some people even swear by using micellar waters their actual cleanser! It also feels great after a workout and will remove sweat and refresh the skin!

The Simple Micellar water was one of the first to roll out in drugstores across the US a few years ago and has remained one of the most popular to date.

For a reasonable price, you get 13.5 ounces of product, compared to Lancome’s micellar water at 6.8 ounces.

Oils: Neutrogena Cleansing Oil vs Caudalie Make-up Removing Cleansing Oil

Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing Oil, 4 Fl. Oz

Many people love using oils as their makeup remover because they dissolve makeup easily without clogging pores and have even been shown to help balance and clear skin as well.

Caudalie’s oil is an award winning makeup remover that transforms from oil to cleanser when mixed with a little water and leaves skin feeling clean, hydrated, and nourished.

Neutrogena’s oil offers a great drugstore alternative that is gentle, non-greasy, and also transforms into a rich lather when you add water.

Solids: E.l.f. Makeup Remover Pen vs Clinique Make Remover Stick

e.l.f. Makeup Remover Pen, Clear, 0.07 Ounce

Makeup remover sticks are a recent development and make touching up your eye makeup, let alone removing it, a breeze!

And if your mascara runs throughout the day, these pens will be a lifesaver for you!

The precise tip allows you to get in and sharpen up messy eyeshadow or eyeliner, without taking off too much.

Both the Clinique and e.l.f. pens easily remove any eye makeup you like, without requiring much pressure or feeling greasy.

Cleansers: Neutrogena Makeup Remover Vs Estee Lauder Makeup Remover

Neutrogena Naturals Fresh Cleansing Daily Face Wash + Makeup Remover with Naturally-Derived Peruvian Tara Seed, Hypoallergenic, Non-Comedogenic & Sulfate-, Paraben- & Phthalate-Free, 6 fl. Oz (2 Pack)

If you’re not a fan of the two step process that is double cleansing, then you will definitely want to reach for a cleanser/makeup remover hybrid.

This product is going to allow you to save time by combining the processes.

Estee Lauder’s Perfectly Clean is a cult favorite product but it isn’t exactly the most budget-friendly, especially if you need to remover your makeup everyday.

For a more cost-effective alternative, try the Neutrogena cleanser instead.

Wipes: Clean & Clear Facial Cleansing Wipes Vs Koh Gen Do Cleansing Spa Water Cloths

Clean & Clear Oil-Free Makeup Dissolving Facial Cleansing Wipes to Remove Dirt, Oil, Makeup & Waterproof Mascara, 25 ct.

Makeup remover wipes have always been regarded as the easiest and quickest way to remove makeup.

Wipes are also super convenient to travel with since they don’t require water (read: sink) to work effectively.

Although there are many options on the market for makeup remover wipes, Clean & Clear’s wipes are some of the most popular because they’re super soft, gentle, and remove all makeup easily.

Although equally effective at removing makeups, Koh Gen Do’s wipes are more expensive
